Rose Quartz Color Palette and Some Thoughts on Why We Need Color

This rose quartz color palette combines soft pinks, light coral, and muted lilac to pull out the warm hues of this semi-precious stone.

February is always the time of year when I start longing for pretty things. Maybe it's too long being stuck inside the house, but I always get a little restless for color this time of year. The flowers haven't started blooming yet and the trees are all brown. I'm tired of all my dark winter clothes, and even my house feels a little dreary with less sun peeking in the windows.

It feels frivolous sometimes to care so much about loveliness, but I think that's really how we're made. With a longing for something more beautiful, more colorful, more joyous than the reality that faces us every day.

But while we're longing for a better world, this is the world we live in, and it's beautiful in its own way. Especially if you stop to look around.

So today, I'm finding beauty in a small stone. A humble pink rose quartz.

It's not a super expensive gemstone. Even the name "semi-precious" is less than inspiring. But it's just downright pretty, especially if you like pink.

Rose Quartz Color Palette

Rose quartz color palette based on an image of quartz crystals with light pinks, coral, and muted lilac colors.

I think I say this almost every time I make a new color palette, but these really are some of my favorite colors. I love the warm pink tones found in these rosy crystals. It's like they capture a hint of sunshine and spread it around in happy colors.

In fact, I looked it up and rose quartz is known as the stone of unconditional love. So I thought it would be appropriate to share it in February, near Valentine's day.

It reminds me of the color of Himalayan sea salt, which I must admit I bought solely for its ability to brighten my day when I'm cooking (one of my least favorite tasks). It also makes the prettiest salt scrub!

If you want a little pretty pink in your life, but can't afford rose quartz jewelry, try buying some pink Himalayan sea salt and displaying it in your kitchen in a pretty little jar. Instant color injection! It really is the little things that make a day or a room feel special.

It's OK to need more beauty in your life, and adding a pop of color is a great way to get it without breaking the bank or acquiring a bunch of stuff that doesn't really satisfy or ends up sitting in a closet.

So here's wishing you a colorful day and some unconditional love comin' your way!
