Have you ever finished a home project that you liked so much it made you want to redo your whole house? This front door makeover has me wanting to tackle my home's curb appeal from top to bottom. I'll get to that soon but in the meantime, here's how easy it is to makeover your front door, with Curb Appeal paint from DecoArt.Front porch makeover with DecoArt Curb Appeal paint.

Painting your front door is a daunting task. There's the prep work, the painting in all those nooks and crannies of the molding, then the waiting while the paint dries before you can close your door. DecoArt has addressed all these problems with their new Curb Appeal paint, and I couldn't be happier with the results. (Yes, this is a sponsored post, but you guys know I only give you my honest opinion when I bring you new products.)

My front door has been bugging me since we moved in. Front door before makeover. That brown has to go!The sad brown color and the mismatched handle hardware made me cringe whenever I opened the door. It's not an awesome feeling when you can't stand to walk through your front door. So when DecoArt asked if I'd like to try their new paint, I jumped at the chance.

I picked Williamsburg Blue, since our house is a traditional ranch style house and I thought the grayish blue color would complement the style nicely. But in the back of my mind, I knew that no matter what color I picked, it would be better than the one I had! So that made the decision pretty easy.

Easy Front Door Makeover

All I did when it came time to prep the door for painting was clean it well, and scrape off some weird gunk that had accumulated around the window frames. Then it just took a couple coats of paint, and about an hour drying time (living in the desert has its advantages!), and the door was done and ready to close. Even painting around all the molding wasn't hard, thanks to the low-drip formula of the Curb Appeal paint. I even got my 9-year-old to help!

Here are my tips for an easy front door makeover.

Start with good paint! You want paint that will be easy to work with (dries fast, less drips), and will remain colorfast, even in harsh environments. Check out DecoArt's website for more info on how their Curb Appeal paint is specially formulated for these types of projects.

A little prep work goes a long way. Start by cleaning your door well with a degreaser or soap and water. Exterior doors can get pretty grimy! Then use a Take the time to prep well before painting.

The order you paint your door matters! Start by painting around the outside edges, the surfaces that will be touching the door frame when the door is closed. That gives these areas more time to dry before coming in contact with the door frame. Then you can take your time working on the molding in the middle areas of the door.

If possible, remove the door handles before painting that part of the door. It makes for a much cleaner finished product than trying to paint around them. Plus, you get to see all the layers of paint that lived there before. It's kind of like your own episode of Finding your Roots!Remove door handles, rather than trying to paint around them.

Keep your sanity by keeping your area clean. Cover the floor with a drop cloth, and if you have extra side light frames like mine, use masking tape for a nice clean edge between the door and the frame.

A Soft Angle Brush. This one's my favorite.

Not very inviting. Even the rose bushes look like they didn't want to be here!

Much better now.

A few accessories add extra pops of color and make the front entryway even more comfortable and welcoming. An easy front door makeover transformed this entryway!

Now we actually spend time on our front patio, and I love opening the door to welcome guests, without feeling like I have to apologize before they even step in the house.

I'm off to start working on a few projects to bring the rest of my home's curb appeal up to match my front door's. This may turn out to be the makeover that launched a thousand projects!

The blue door is a vast improvement! I'm not even sure I could paint my door a bright color. My HOA would probably have a hissy 😉

It looks great! I love how easy that is to change. Several years ago, I repainted my mom's front door as a mother's day gift (or some other occasion) and it was a huge improvement! Especially in the desert where all the colors can be drab and beige - a beautiful colored front door is an improvement for the whole neighborhood!

What a great idea for a gift! And that's so true about the desert colors. We have to make our own colors wherever we can!

Looks great! Did you paint the hardware or just clean it? If yes, what did you use?

I actually replaced the hardware. (I didn't mention it in the post because it wasn't really part of the DIY project. My purse was stolen and we had to get our whole house re-keyed, so I just had the locksmith give me a new door handle in the process.)

But NOW, when you look at your front door, you won't say, "A couple of Hershey's Kisses would really hit the spot." 😉

Yes! Which is good because Hershey kisses are my downfall. 😉
