Blue Door Palette

A bright ice blue door sets the tone for these cool blues. #thepalettemuse #colorpalette #colorinspo

I love front doors. Like the wrapping on a gift box, they are full of possibilities. What’s inside? Do the people living there have a cozy home? Does the personality of their front door reflect the personality of the inside of their home? Is it weird that I think of these things while looking at a door? I was re-watching Love Actually again recently, and realized that one of my favorite characters is actually a door. There’s a brief moment when Natalie is standing in front of the Prime Minister’s door at 10 Downing Street as it slowly swings open. It’s got this beautiful deep black gloss that you just… Keep Reading

Vacation Rental Hosting: Creating the Perfect AirBNB Listing

Creating the perfect AirBNB listing for your vacation rental property is an art form. It takes a deft hand with photography, some creative juices flowing into the wording, and a few specific bits of know-how to get folks to line up (online) to book your home for their vacations. As you probably know if you’ve been researching vacation rental opportunities, there are a LOT of properties out there. How do you stand out from the crowd and earn your first bookings? Let’s dig in! First, and maybe most redundantly, you need a good clean property to rent out. I covered that in my first post of this series, on getting… Keep Reading

Vacation Rental Hosting: How to Set Up a Home for AirBNB

Welcome to a new mini-series here on the blog, all about hosting your own vacation rental property! While I’m normally all about DIY Projects, Crafts, and Flipping Houses, today I’m kicking off a new series that goes along with my latest project outside the blog. But first, a little background information. Let me tell you a little story about how I accidentally became a landlord. As you may know, my design partner Jana and I flip houses as a little side business. I say “little” because we’re not a big operation like the HGTV gurus who do dozens of homes a year. We don’t have a lot of time or… Keep Reading

Office Makeover Reveal for the $100 Room Challenge

My favorite part of the $100 Room Challenge is here: Reveal Week! I love seeing how everyone’s projects turned out, and I love the satisfying feeling of finishing my own project. (As opposed to all the other unfinished projects lying around my house at the moment.) Before I take you on a tour of the finished office/guest room that I’ve been working on, I just want to take a minute to thank Erin of Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry for dreaming up such a fun challenge, and for including me in this group of bloggers, each of whom are a complete inspiration to me. If you’re new to the challenge, take… Keep Reading

Progress in the Office for the $100 Room Challenge

This week’s $100 Room Challenge post is all about progress, not perfection. If you’re new to the $100 Room Challenge, check out the first post in this series to get an idea of what’s going on. Then come right back here and I’ll catch you up. Inevitably in any project there comes a time when you’re just working. And working. It’s not pretty, it’s not glamorous, and it’s not really photo-worthy, but it’s got to be done. That’s the moment when I like to look for small victories and celebrate them, because I believe all the big things in life are really just made up of lots and lots of… Keep Reading

Creating Paint Pouring Art for the $100 Room Challenge

Have you heard of paint pouring? Maybe you’ve seen the mesmerizing Youtube videos of people pouring paint onto canvas and making amazing creations? I’ve been captivated by the idea for a while, so when I started thinking of how to decorate our office/guest room for the $100 Room Challenge, I knew I wanted to give it a try. If you haven’t yet read last week’s post, check it out first to see where this room started, and where it’s going, as well as read all about the $100 Room Challenge and how it works. My main complaint about this office is that it’s a little drab and boring, so I… Keep Reading

Flip House Hattie’s Big Reveal

It’s here… Reveal Day! I love a good makeover, don’t you? Our current flip house, named Hattie, seemed like she didn’t need much, but in reality all the little changes added up to a full remodel.  This was the kind of house that just needed a few of the right touches to bring it up to date. And while that’s not as exciting a makeover as some of the falling-down houses I’ve seen, the overall effect turned out to be really satisfying. But enough of my musing, let’s get to the pictures, shall we? Hattie Before her Makeover Here are a few “Before” shots of our beloved Hattie, to remind… Keep Reading

‘Tis the season to get outside! This is the time of year it starts feeling like summer, even though officially it’s still spring. Which means it’s time to get outside before it gets too hot to enjoy it! I can’t wait to share this post with you today as part of Remodelaholic’s Get Out! Outdoor DIY Challenge. We haven’t done much to our backyard since moving in two years ago, but this summer that’s all about to change. As much as I love interior decor, I also love to get outside and enjoy the amazing Albuquerque weather as often as possible. When you get about 300 days of sunshine a… Keep Reading
