I know it’s fall and cherry blossoms aren’t really in season, but I wanted to share this palette with you because I’m working on a similar one right now in a master bedroom. I really love the cool gray undertones, with the romantic red accents. It’s perfect for a bedroom where you want a relaxing retreat, but don’t want to be bored by going too neutral. One word of caution though: use the pinks sparingly, and balance the dramatic colors with a solid foundation of classic white coverings for the bed. The colors, top to bottom, are as follows: Valspar Naivete 7001-21 Valspar Water Lily Bloom 1007-6C Valspar Montpelier… Keep Reading
These are the Terracotta Warriors in Xian, China. I visited the sight when I was 9 years old, and even at that age, I was amazed by the huge scale of the site, and the detail that went into creating each soldier. They are all different, and they seem to go on for miles and miles. Apparently, they were originally painted in bright colors, but most of the paint is gone, and just the terracotta remains. I imagine they were beautiful then, but the patina of age has made them even more amazing. In life, as in art, it’s easy to look at something and just see one color but… Keep Reading

I am so proud to announce that, thanks to my technologically savvy and artistically gifted friend Sarah, I can now start bringing you custom color palettes! This is one of the main reasons I originally started this blog, and now, almost a year later, it’s finally happening. Today’s palette, inspired by my parents’ recent trip to Paris, is a colorful one. I personally prefer Valspar paints for my own projects, so all the colors in this palette are Valspar. From top to bottom, they are: DewdropPantone NectarineLa Fonda FireberryBlack Raisin When picking colors to paint a room, I encourage clients to choose a piece of inspiration. Fall has finally come to town, and as I’m contemplating how much work it will be to get all my cold-weather clothes down from their boxes in the top of my tiny closet, I turn instead to my computer, which never threatens me with piles of wrinkled sweaters falling on my head. So much easier! Today’s palette is inspired by fall colors, but I’m not a huge fan of orange and brown, so instead, I’ve found some lovely pinks, roses, and chocolates to show you. This would make a great palette for a sitting room, or an inspiring tablescape for a country dining room. Remember, whether you’re designing a room,… Keep Reading
Here in Albuquerque, summer is fighting hard to keep its hold on our days. School has started, but the weather apparently didn’t get the memo that Fall is coming. Our days are still 95 degrees, and the kids and I are sweating messes by the time we finish walking home from school. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. Though I love Fall, I always feel a twinge of loss as the days grow shorter. That’s why this week’s Palette pays homage to summer. Palette: Pale Pink, Bright Salmon, and Light Taupe Like the slurp of melted strawberry ice cream at the bottom of the bowl, this palette inspires… Keep Reading
