Pug Palette and the Dog Days of Summer

I have a thing for dogs. There’s just something about their happy spirit that makes me smile. And their soft furriness doesn’t hurt either. I love all breeds and all mutts, but when it comes to goofy cuteness, there’s no comparison to pugs.

When I saw this photo, it just made me smile.

If you’re wondering, that’s often how I pick the photos that serve as inspiration for my color palettes. Sometimes I start with a subject matter or color idea in mind, but most of the time I just scroll through one of my favorite free photo sites until I see a picture that catches my eye and my imagination.

Anyway, back to the dogs. We went camping this weekend, and I can’t decide if that’s my dog’s favorite thing in the whole world, or if it terrifies him so much that it takes him a week to recover afterwards. Either way, he’s always exhausted when we get home. He lays in his crate the whole next day after a trip, looking like he just survived an ordeal of unspeakable proportions.

I’m pretty sure it’s the first option. He spends the weekend sniffing around, chasing small mountain vermin, and getting as dirty as caninely possible. He also gets lots of forbidden treats of the highest quality. Flame grilled bratwursts, hamburgers, and sausages seem to fall off the table more often while camping than at home. So we all return home having overindulged and eaten ourselves silly. That’s half the point of camping!

I think he’s happy. He’s always happy when he’s with us. At least, that’s my interpretation. That’s why you get a dog right? For the uninterrupted adoration. If you wanted logic and efficiency, along with the occasional cold shoulder, you’d get a cat.

I hope this Pug Palette makes you smile, or gives you inspiration for your next color project. Either way, enjoy these dog days of summer!

Actually, I once roomed in a house with an older, male cat who was fraternal to the point of being annoying (his coat was a gorgeous shade of orange, btw). Perhaps such cats are exceptions that prove the rule, but they are out there. Purrrrrrr…

Hmmm, maybe an orange tabby palette would be a good idea...

Love Beagles, from their goofy personalities to their incessant baying. They never have a bad day...

Pugs are such comical looking dogs, and I do indeed love the palette you've created based on their coloring :)
