Ancient Pink Plaster Palette

I’ve been enamored with all things pink since writing last week’s DIY Pink Himalayan Salt Scrub post. I’m not usually a girly girl, and my favorite color has never been pink (it’s green) but something about this salmony pink color has grabbed my attention lately.

I think what I loved about the pink Himalayan salt is the variation in color, and that’s what I love about today’s palette as well.A dark window covered with black wrought iron peeks out of a layered pink plaster wall.

As much as I have a thing for painted front doors, I also have this thing about layered plaster on old walls. I think there must be so much history covered with each layer of color. If these walls could talk… Try as we might in modern interior design, there is only one way to get a legitimate aged patina like this, and that’s actual aging.

I don’t know where this photo was taken, or what the rest of the building looks like, but that wrought iron grate covering that deep dark window has me intrigued. The rusty black stark lines of the iron contrast so completely with the softness of the pink shades of the plaster. Maybe it’s in Havana? Maybe Morocco? The possibilities are endless, and if you recognize this photo, please don’t ruin my romantic moment by telling me this is in suburban Ohio or somewhere equally unromantic.

For Valentine’s Day this year I’m wishing you romantic notions, dreams of faraway places, and hints of long ago times. And maybe something wrapped in pink.

I'm wearing a pink and black striped shirt as I read this, but I'm for a bit of pink with a lot of black ;)
