15 Minute Minimalist Spring Wreath on the Cheap

Cheap and fast, that’s me.  At least when it comes to my style in crafting. But then, who doesn’t love a project that gives you major wow factor with less money and less time? This minimalist spring wreath gives you both for just under $10 and about 15 minutes of your time. How’s that for cheap and fast?Easy minimalist spring wreath in 15 minutes!

I started with a giant embroidery hoop that I found months ago at a thrift store and grabbed immediately, not even knowing what I would do with it. (This is why I have a craft stash storage problem.) Then I added a few spring blooms from the Dollar Tree and put it all together with masking tape.

Yep, you read that right. Masking tape.

Here’s how to make your own minimalist spring wreath:

You’ll need:

Put your wreath together:

Clip apart all the 2 bunches of rose-like flowers at the spot where the flower stem connects to the branch. Also clip the grasses into more manageable chunks. (Don’t clip apart your spikey flowers!)

Be sure your embroidery hoop is snugly tightened at the clamp. You can tighten or loosen it by turning the screw. (This concludes the list of everything I know about embroidery.)

Decide where you want to position the floral part of your wreath. I decided to add the flowers directly at the bottom, or opposite side from the clamp and then hang it asymmetrically. (Asymmetry is a big element in modern minimalism.)

Tear off a piece of masking tape about 8 inches long. Attempt to keep from tangling yourself and all your greenery in said tape.

Lay the clumps of grass on top of the front of the hoop, facing in opposite directions. Tape one clump of grass onto the hoop securely (at least one full pass of the tape around the hoop) and then repeat with the other clump.

Then lay your spikey flowers on top of the grass, also facing in opposite directions. You may need to trim the bottom of the stalks so they aren’t sticking out everywhere. Tape these onto the hoop in several spots.

Finally, arrange your rose-like flowers along the top of the spikey flowers and tape them on one by one. Remember this is minimalism, so you probably won’t need all the flowers in the bunch. I used just 5: three of the peach colored, and two of the fuchsia colored.

Be sure everything is secure and add more tape as needed, and then you’re done!

Taping Tips:

  • You may want to tear off several pieces of tape in advance and tape them to the edge of your table or workspace so they’ll be easier to grab while your hands are occupied holding 6 things at a time.
  • Also, try to wrap the tape only around the part of the stem that touches the hoop. This allows the greenery or flowers to spring free and look more natural. It also hides the tape better.
  • Speaking of hiding the tape, your flowers pretty much do that for you and since the masking tape is a similar color to the natural wood it doesn’t show up, even in spots where it’s not completely hidden.

I hung my wreath in my new studio/office. By the way, if you haven’t seen that blog post yet, be sure to check it out so you can get your coupon for a FREE sample of Dunn-Edwards paint!

Where will you hang your new wreath? You don’t have to decorate your house in minimalism to add a wreath like this. It’s perfect for spring, no matter your decorating style!
