Sunny Field Palette

With Thanksgiving coming up next week, I feel like everywhere I turn I’m surrounded by oranges and browns. And while pumpkins and leaves look perfectly radiant in orange, I must admit it’s not one of my favorite colors. So I just couldn’t bring myself to do a “Harvest” palette, as I feel the season dictates. (If that makes me a party pooper, wait till you see how I feel about red and green next month!)

Instead, I found inspiration in this photo of a sunny field. This sunny palette is full of warm greens and golds. It feels like summer is on it’s way out, but the light is still warm and the flowers are still in bloom, and that captures how I feel about the seasons right now. I do love Fall, but when it gets cold, I get a little cranky. (Or a lot, if you believe my husband and kids.)

So for now, I choose to think warm summery thoughts while I’m getting a head start on my Thanksgiving cooking.

Just kidding, if you’ve been reading along with me for any time now, you know I hate to cook and I certainly don’t get started early on anything!

I’ll be surfing Pinterest, looking for pictures of sunny things, if anyone’s looking for me…

Speaking of flowers, Caroline from FTD.com (Did you know they have a fab design blog?) shared this genious infographic with me recently knowing my passion for color and decorating, and I thought I’d pass it along to you. Enjoy!

In my considered opinion, Meredith, you are selling the color orange short. Go check out the tasty flavors of orange on display at Wikipedia's "Shades of orange" page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shades_of_orange), see if you don't have a change of heart, and report back to us. I moreover note that pumpkin pie is orangish - this should seal the deal, eh?

Yes, I must admit that pumpkin pie is one of the few exceptions to my anti-orange rule. But that's because I usually smother mine with whipped cream, so I'm not sure it counts as orange in that state...

What a clever way to come up with color palettes. While ask of them are interesting o think sunny field is my favorite, then the red hydrangea one. Just like Jacquie, I'd never heard of them either. Cool.

Thanks Susan! I thought these were pretty neat too. I used to work for a florist back in the day, so I love the idea of basing color combos on flowers.

I love all these palettes, especially in that few of them are so unusual. Especially he paring with the red hydrangeas... I don't think I've ever seen red hydrangeas!

Thanks Jacquie, that's what I loved about these too. I like mulling over new color concepts!

What gorgeous color combinations. Other than the mustard, I could see using every last one of these color-combinations. You're very good at this. I used to love yellow, but it's recently fallen off "the list" . Funny that.

Can't wait to see what you come up with in December. Red and green, how did you ever come to be?

Thank you! I know that yellow is a little much. Maybe to be used very sparingly, as an accent? I could see a piece of yellow ironware or something similar. Yellow is a tricky color to work with!

I really like all of the color combinations you are showing us. Very pretty and out of the ordinary which is always nice. I have to add, looking at the top combination of the field, I have a big bookcase and I flipped all of my books so that the bindings do not show. The whole thing looks like those beautiful cream colors. It is so soothing and calming. I just love to look at it now.
